CLOVERDALE, CA 95425 (August 1st, 2014) Each year the Iron Fly competition is held at the ICast/IFTD show in Orlando. Professional Tyers and Industry Pro’s are lined up at one long bench, and each are given an identical bag of materials, vise, and tools with which to work.  Each tyer chooses their preferred style of hook, and similar to the TV Show “Iron Chef”, a secrete ingredient (in this case material) is revealed. This mystery material must be used in each tyers creation, and the tyers are judged on their technical skill, creativity and ability to integrate the material in to a functional fly for fishing.

The high-powered panel of judges included industry legends Bob Popovics, Bob Clourser, Nick Curcione, Ben Furimsky, and Bill Black.  Two semi-finalists are chosen after the round to tie off in a pressure charged final.   This year Drew Chicone emerged victoriously by unanimous decision.

“I would like to congratulate Drew on behalf of everyone here at Dyna-King for his win of the 2014 Iron Fly Competition” said Shannon Langevin, CFO at Dyna-King, Inc. “It just goes to show that his talent and ingenuity as a fly tyer is among the best in the industry.  We are proud and excited to have him on our team, and we look forward to his future endeavors”.
